Extra 330-3D

EXTRA 330-3D (update : 04/08 - new vid attached. see end of post)

Yet i find some times to build this simple airplane out of depron. i've kept the plan for so long until last two weeks when my fellow rcer bring his to the field. all this while, all my flying is just for fun. now i'm thinking going into some skill flying. and this is mine ... not going for the look tho, just a quick build.

last weekend, prep her with a 1000kv blm + APC 10x5 + 30A ESC + 1300mAh 11.1V 20C. got a good flight for 10min with that setup.

got the chance to test my skill in prop hanging n flying knife edge. got a couple nice meneuver.

i have to say, this build would be a great project for any beginner in building their own plane.

sorry no build log. maybe next time if i decided to build a second set

update : 07/06

i have lots of crashes with my first build. not fit to fix any more. so now im working on another one. im really into this now. at least now i have target each time i went out flying my plane.

the blue print:

the plane came in three major part - wing, vertical piece n horizontal piece. easy build it is.

tranfering for cut out:

i like to trace the plane on the depron for cutting. if you notice, i tape the edge of my plan for future use.

the doubler :

im thinking i batter make this build strong, as im flying out door (n crash a lot). so im putting some doubler in some part of the plane using depron n balsa wood (2mm).

im using color packing tape for the color scheme. tape first then glue all togather.

wing doubler. rounded the leading edge with sand paper. carbon srip as spar.

tail part. see all the carbon strip for strength. behind the firewall there's a carbon rod.

under.

i've made some mod to the plan. i decided to use two servo for ailerons and all the servo are out side the depron. as from my previous build, those place use to brake on crash.

update: 080509

final product after some tweaking. add some checker box.

double servo for aileron.

bottom view.

landing gear made from wire hangar just for protection for the prop on landing. from

all out weight came out 450g (17oz). suppost thats heavy for this build. its all cause by the balsa/depron doubler. cant wait to maiden her soon.

update 090609

this vid is taken after the plane suffered from a lot of crashes in the learning process. and it all out of tune. first flight was great n i even got some decent hover n knife edge out of it (not in this vid). and of course i practice a lot in the sim before trying to do all those manuevers.

update 190609

just wanna share my third build for one of my fellow rcer. not much of color that i can choose frm, as i only left with blue tape. lucky that i still have my black plaka. used it to make the chacker box n canopy.

here some tweak here n there that i've made.

saperate servo for the aileron control. double side tape to the wing n some hot glue to secure it. i did the same to my elevator n rudder servo.

bty strap. put a piece of balsa wood on top as to avoid it crashing in between the holes.

balsa doubler for the nose. firewall from 2piece of balsa wood ca togather.

landing gear from carbon rod and thick music wire joint together with heat shrink tube n some ca. carbon rod hot glued to balsa wood to avoid it from making a hole into the depron.

tail gear using music wire n strengthen with balsa wood.

mod to the wing piece. i've entended the center part but forgot to do the same thing to the front part.

please realise that this mod have a weight penalty. but helps strengthen the plane for a beginner like me. with 450g (17oz) on my setup, it still feels right when flying it.

hope this post can do some good in giving some idea to my fellow rcer who planning on building one of this. i love it as my first 3D plane. i never flown a 3D plane before. but after some hour in the sim (after i decide to build the first one), i can do harrier, hover n knife edge with this plane. soo i've to say this is a great plane to build. simple!!

update 080709 :

I just love building flat foamies  i cant resist to build a new extra this time because of i found 6mm depron. my previous build ar al from 5mm and the material are easy to break. my new depron looks like its has a plastic coating. so it wont snap easily. thanx to my friend AdyPutra BMNF for the depron.

With this build im going with the same setup as before, except i'm back to 3 servos n no landing gear as i found that my new depron can handle hard landings. n thanx to MBzul BKFS for the stickers. one thing puzzles me tho', my auw still end up 450g. maybe cause by my electronic setup n new depron. might try new setup soon.

so far still trying to find the right tx setting for her.

update 190709

made some mod:

-motor change to towerpro 2410-9 with 1038. it really do the job for +-7min flight.

-put a fishing line bracing on the tail. seems like it helps in tracking it right.

update 200709

yesterday morning at Astaka Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, for Ampang Putri Hospital Family Day RC Demo, i've got a chance to test my not so sharp skills n some new tricks that i've learned from DIY Day at Wetland (thanx bro azmi3d n umran).

here's the video courtesy of kamal a.k.a wanakaw from ARCA.

update 040809

Hovering my Extra 330 Foamy from 3DBatix at the front yard. Same place where i first hovers my HBK2.

its a windy day, want to test my hovering skills. Sorry for the poor quality vid. Using my wife camera phone. n again sorry for the bg kids voices.
