My DIY 330 Quad

It has been a while playing with my diy spider quad with kkmulticopter board and with my current power setup it seems to be on the heavy side with my fpv equipment on board and I am serious to fly fpv and looking for a new frame worth it for me to build and to house my new Afroflight AcroNaze32.
Come a friend of mine with his diy 330 aluminium frame and i find it tempting. Asking for his help on how he does it, he didn't only teach me how i can build one for myself but even gave me the aluminium needed for the build (thanx khairil).

My First FPV Flights

I have long dream to fly FPV and slowly build a budget flying machine to just get the feel of being an FPV pilot. Its just a simple quadcopter made from aluminium. So here, I just wanna share my first FPV flights, day and night.

FPV Monitor Setup

When I start plying with multirotor, some it is really like getting myself into FPV (First Person View). To have a good gear for a great FPV experience one have to spend a lot which I'm not going to do (yet). So as usual I went with what I can get my hands on with minimal cost. I got my hands on a pair of VTx/VRx from a friend (thanx Jazzman) and a decent cam with a monitor (thanx Pelurusilver).
I've seen a lot of people using a tripod to place their monitor and VRx but as a lazy person i am,  i went with a simpler solution which I learn from my friends (thanx Syedkechik).

DIY Voltage Sensor For FrSky Telemetry

My DIY voltage sensor on board
Frsky radio system with telemetry enable receiver have an/a couple of analog voltage inputs (for remote voltage measurements). The ER9X Tx software allows the assignment of alarm thresholds to these analog inputs. When the voltage alarm condition occurs a beeper in the R/C Tx sounds off. To use the analog inputs the Rx needs a resistor based attenuator to scale the voltage. The voltage applied to the analog input must not exceed 3.3V, which is the sole purpose of the attenuator.
The attenuator is actually a voltage divider circuit which produce an output voltage that is a fraction of its input voltage. In our case when our flight pack is fully charge (12.6V), the max output of our sensor is 3.3V and getting lower proportionally to our flight pack voltage.

Turnigy 9x - Frsky DHT Module Telemetry Hack without RS232 Converter

I'm having this transmitter for quite so long which i bought from a friend. All this while it just been used by my son to control his RC Rover as i don't trust the stock Tx module on the transmitter for my flying. Until i build my tricopter and then my quadcopter. Flying a multirotor need us to be aware of the on board voltage while flying to a void any mishaps.
As i have done a mod to a friends Flysky TH9x with a Frsky module giving him a means to monitor his voltage on board through telemetry, i decided to mod my Turnigy to do the same but this time using a Frsky DHT DIY module.

My DIY Spider Quad

Here is my first quadcopter build. I love how the TBS Discovery looks in the air, but i can't justified it cost for me to get one. And there is Reptile frame which also looks nice in the air but again it still cost a lot for me. Then i started to look for a free plans of a TBS look a like on the internet with which i could build one for myself.
Lucky me i did find it here -http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1706111. Nick_P don't just share his plan of a spider quad for free but included a complete guide how to make one yourself in writings and a series of youtube videos.
Here is what i come out with...

Martinez V3 Brushless Gimbal for GoPro Hero3

Helping a friend with his brushless gimbals controller is quite an interesting experience. The board came with pin headers not yet soldered to it place. Searching the internet for information regarding how to connect and how to setup the gimbals itself is a challenge. But i managed at the end to get the right settings for used with a GoPro Hero3 on board. For a new technology, brushless gimbals has come to the point where every one can have a great stable aerial videos.

I am not going for the detail step, but just sharing what i've done.

My DIY Tricopter

Last couple of years i've tried to build a tricopter base on David's build (rcexplorer.se). At that time flight control boards are still new in developement and the one that proven to work is way to expensive. So we used gyros and mixing in the radio as David did at that time. It is a challenging experience to make it fly and a big satisfactory once it does. Thanks to Myhotgears for sponsoring the build. But now with all the various flight controller available on the market have made flying multirotors a new hobby with growing fans.

DIY Attiny45/85 Programming Shield

It is just something i made up to make my life easier and to sharpen my soldering skills.
Arduino is totally new to me after a friend sharing his rc plane navigation lights project. It is just interest me to give it a try. Since then i keep trying to learn something new out of it.
This thing really makes me thinking 'Why the hell i didn't pay attention to my electronics classes before?'. It is actually interesting to be able to build something electronicky.

KKMulticopter FlyCam Blackboard - Twincopter

A friend of mine gave me his old multirotor flight controller board to play with (thanx Myhotgears). The first thing that came into my mine is build a twin/dual copter out of it. Just to prove the concept and have the feel of it. Further more by the time i got the FC i only have two motors and two esc at hand.
Like i said, i build it just to prove the concept and get the feel of it myself.

LED Navigation Light with ATtiny45/85

Since a friend introduce me to arduino, i has been my dream to build myself a navigation lights customize to my liking.
He who played with arduino longer than me have come out with an on board navigation lights complete with strobe lights, beacon and even capabilities to switch your lights on and off using your remote control.
I think i am far from that, but i have build myself a simple navigation lights with strobe and beacon and i'm using ATtiny45 for its small size.

DIY 5v Regulator from old ESC

Hi guys. Just wanna share my latest discoveries. It is actually common thing within electronics gurus out there, but i am a newbie in this so this is something i am really excited with.
As for us who has been long involved with RC hobby, i believe we have quite a collection of burned out ESCs laying around somewhere in our home.
Now we can use it to power something else.

FPV RC Rover Using Smartphones

I initially built a servo driven RC rover for my son to play with and because i found it to be something i have to try for myself. Who would guess the rover just been driven by two normal 9g servos. Thanks to rctestflight.
I just take it a little bit further by testing it for a ground FPV platform. Inspired by a friend who uses two smartphones as an FPV gear for his quadcopter, i dig out my old Galaxy Ace.

How To - Servo 360 Mod

I get a lot of question as to how i did the servo mod for my rc rover. That is involving modifying a normal 9g servo to be able to turn freely on both direction.
I got the tips from a youtube channel rctestflight which happens to be the same person i got the idea to build the rc rover. The build is really cool (you can ask my son) and the modification needed is simple. Anyone with a spare servo and couple of old broken one could easily make it.

Simple DIY 5V BEC

I'm looking for a way to power my servo tester with my LiPo without using an ESC which i used to do. I don't have a BEC laying around, and i'm too cheap to buy one just to power a servo tester. Then i remember a friend of mine building his own BEC from a minimal amount of component to power his sailboat with a LiPo battery.
I start looking for parts in my workshop to make myself a DIY BEC and lucky me i have some laying around in my electronics box. A couple of hours later after some datasheet reading, schematic figuring, component placing and soldering, i got myself one simple homemade BEC.
