TTAH ROV a Community Project

It all started with one of our members at our local rc lake site (Taman Tasik Ampang Hilir) joking around about building a submarine to explore whats underneath our lake and look for those unlucky boats n planes that had rest in peace at the bottom of it. And if i remember it right, since we start using this lake as our rc spot, there has been at least 2 boats, 1 multirotor, 1 plane and 2 gopro camera lost due to various cause and sitting there to be found. As it started as a joke, i saw it as a great opportunity to proposed a community project for us at the lake and came out with the idea to build an ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) which could make a dive and carries camera with it to discover what's underneath our lake or maybe try to find those missing treasure :)

I started with a concept drawing of the systems that we gonna use and showed it to other members of our group and got a lots of positive feedback. We started sharing ideas and members volunteering to contribute to the project.

I came out with the idea to build our systems using our knowledge in rc hobbies i.e using rc radio system for control and rc motors for propulsion.

Propulsion System
We are using 3x750kv brushless motor with 3x30A ESC with reverse (Electronik Speed Controller) fix with 65mm EDF (Electric Ducted Fan) propeller (Kaysee/Syedkechik)

Control System
We were using a programmable RC transmitter and receiver as to have the capability to program a mix for our thrusters to be able to use both motor for foward and backward movement and turning. The receiver is placed top side.

Tether
The cable used to parse communication between the rov underwater and top side. We were using CAT5e network cable for control and video (Jazzman)

Monitoring System
A waterproof reverse camera meant for cars were used with a monitor and as for the lighting strips of 12v leds were used (Pelurusilver)

Frame
From various size of PVC pipes (YbManman)

Power
So far we opt to used a 3s 2200mah 25C lipo battery which reside inside the main hull. This is due to simplicity to carry the power pack in the ROV itself then having the pack top side and trouble with power transmission later on.

Test
Our first water test is just to check for thrusters function and leak test. The test was performed without tether.
