Surmount - RC Sailboat

Boat hull is based entirely on an ocean going racing yacht and moulded in fibreglass with a perfect gelcoat and enamel painted finish. This is the one you found on Hobbyking.

Check out my surmount just had a face lifted here.

I got it second hand from a fellow rcer whos upgrading to a one meter sailboat.

Spec.:
 Length : 800mm
 Height : 1520mm
 Weight : 1.4kg
 Area of Sails : 0.25m2
 Ballast weight: 1.3kg
Required. Radio System (2ch) n Receiver battery.

I used my old E-Sky Lama V3 TX and salvage the RX from its 4 in 1 and it never fails me.

I've replace my rudder servo with Hitec economy standard servo HS-311.

Replacement for sail winch servo Batan B-1226.

My newest mod:

1. Using a string with bowsie to replace the boom vang thus it is adjustable.

2. New jibsail to give it some contrast for better visibility from a far and completes the color scheme. For the material, search e-Bay for Emmakites. Cut from a water proof ripstop nylon same same the original sails. I am using my old soldering iron for the job which the tip had been grind to a knife like shape. It makes a clean cut as the heat automatically fuse those thread.

3. Moved the forestay below the masthead crane

4. Jib and main sheet clip for easy removal n adjustable via bowsie.

----------------------------TIPS, TRICKS and MODS----------------------------

Masthead crane - replace with fabricated aluminium for strength.

  1. hi, i have a question. Can you break down the boat into smaller pieces for transport? I don't have a car so I'm wondering whether it is feasible for me to get started with rc sailing. Thanks.

    1. Hi Edd. The surmount came basically as a kit with almost of the parts detached from the hull ie. keel, bulp, rudder, 2pc mast which fit in a box. So it is possible. But I can't imagine the time needed putting it all together each time for sailing and packing it all afterward. Further more the place where you attach the keel to the hull is known to be the weak spot so most of the owner just glue it fix to the hull using epoxy. The rudder i would say a hard to reach spot to disable n assemble. I think you can get away with the two part mast which attached with a screw.
As i said, it is possible but unlikely to be feasible as you going to need more time assembling and packing it each time you go for sailing.
